Optometrists are the primary eye and vision care practitioners, providing services such as refraction and prescription, detection, diagnosis, and management of eye diseases, as well as rehabilitation of conditions affecting the visual system. Optometry is a healthcare profession that is autonomous, educated, and regulated (licensed/registered). The profession of optometry was rated as "one of the top 7 fantastic careers" by Kiplinger's because of its high standard of living, respect from the profession, prospects for self-employment, and outstanding financial reward.
Independent practice as an optometrist
◈ Can work as an optometrist in national and multinational optical retail companies in different countries
◈ Can start own clinic and optical centre.
◈ Can start specialty clinics like contact lenses, low vision, orthotics.
◈ Can work in companies like Bausch and Lomb, essilor, zeiss, titan eye plus, reliance, johnson and johnson, lenskart etc.
◈ Can work overseas with good salary.
◈ Students can pursue higher studies like post graduation or M.Optometry and PhD programs.
◈ Can work in edicutional institutions as lecturer, assistant professors, professor.
◈ Can work in government hospitals, private hospitals and NGOs.
◈ Can work for administrative sector in specific field of healthcare sectors.
