Optometry is a healthcare profession that is autonomous, educated, and regulated (licensed/registered). The profession of optometry was rated as "one of the top 7 fantastic careers" by Kiplinger's because of its high standard of living, respect from the profession, prospects for self-employment, and outstanding financial reward.

Independent practice as an optometrist
◈ Can work as an optometrist in national and multinational optical retail companies in different countries
◈ Can start own clinic and optical centre.
◈ Can start specialty clinics like contact lenses, low vision, orthotics.
◈ Can work in companies like Bausch and Lomb, essilor, zeiss, titan eye plus, reliance, johnson and johnson, lenskart etc.
◈ Can work overseas with good salary.
◈ Students can pursue higher studies like post graduation or M.Optometry and PhD programs.
◈ Can work in edicutional institutions as lecturer, assistant professors, professor.
◈ Can work in government hospitals, private hospitals and NGOs.
